Thorney Lakes Golf Club

New Year Brings New Captains

On Friday 12th january 2007 at the Club's Annual General Meeting Malcolm Robinson (2006 Captain) handed over the reins to his successor Terry Kavanagh.  Previously the Ladies and Seniors Captains had changed from Ruth Rickett and Mervyn Button to Maureen and Michael Pickard respectively.

At the AGM Malcolm, Ruth and Mervyn were pleased and delighted to be able to present a substantial cheque to their chosen charity for 2006 - The Rudolph Fund.  The money had principally been raised at a variety of golf tournaments and events supported by members and guests during the sunnier months.

I am sure that we would all like to wish Terry, Maureen and Michael every success in their respective roles throughout 2007.  Plus to thank those members who served on the various committees during 2006 and welcome some new faces for 2007 from amongst those of you that have volunteered their services and expertise to assist with the running of the club.

The new captains have already commenced work on planning their major days for 2007.  The dates currently known are shown on the 2007 events page.  For 2007 their chosen charity is the Sue Ryder Home at Thorpe Hall, Peterborough.  The home provides specialist care for patients with life threatening illnesses and a day centre that provides respite care for people with MS etc.

In addition the three of them will be looking for support for the Captain's Project.  This will be for the design and commissioning of a new starter's building near to the 1st and 10th tees.
